Participate in Volunteer Work Abroad in Africa!

work abroad

Africa is a fascinating continent that is both rich with resources, such as gold, precious stones, and even oil, but at the same time, it is so poor in basic necessities, such as food, health care, and education. In fact, Africa contains over half of the world’s poorest countries.  Countries struck with poverty commonly are victim to starvation, sickness and disease, human rights violations, human trafficking, etc. There are many opportunities for volunteer abroad work in Africa with healthcare, women’s and child care, ecological projects and more.

Volunteer work in Africa is available for a wide range of personal backgrounds. Volunteer abroad opportunities are especially great for students who are seeking a unique and rewarding experience. Volunteer abroad in Africa can be completed in many different fields of study. Students or professionals who complete volunteer work in Africa related to their field of study can place the experience on their resume or earn college credits. However, volunteer programs in Africa are not only for students, professionals, or those with academic or field experience. If you are someone without specific skills who is looking for a great opportunity to help a community in need, there are many programs you can participate it. Having drive, focus, compassion, and charisma play a large part in the success of a volunteer work opportunity in Africa, not just education or experience.

Because of Africa’s richness in natural resources, volunteer work opportunities are plentiful in fields related to conservation. Conservation volunteer work abroad are a popular choice for those seeking field experience while at the same time making a valuable contribution to the social and economical climate of African countries. Students may be particularly interested in wildlife and habitat volunteer work opportunities in Africa. Volunteers can assist in lion habitat management, orphaned chimpanzee care, or even play a role in the re-introduction of cheetahs and other wildlife into their natural habitats. Of course, this  kind of volunteer work in Africa is not only for students. African conservation and wildlife programs are available for volunteers from many different backgrounds, from high school graduates to retired individuals.

Other volunteer opportunities are desired throughout Africa, such as community service volunteer work abroad. Like other poverty stricken areas, there is a need to provide care for orphaned children, disabled persons, and the elderly. Many of the countries cannot provide the assistance needed for this vulnerable group of people. Orphanages and other care facilities often rely on outside organizations and individual volunteers to assist in this area of the local communities.

Volunteers may also be interested in the opportunities in Africa to teach English and other subjects. Many classrooms are poorly equipped with the tools and instructors required for even the most elementary instruction. Volunteers are needed to help educate disadvantaged children and encourage them to learn through creating a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. By learning English and basic instruction, new opportunities are made available for students. And, many of those opportunities will impact their personal economic wellbeing. Those that travel to Africa to teach English and other subjects will have the reward of knowing their volunteer work in Africa can have a long lasting effect on the student and the surrounding community.

Volunteer work in Africa can be a rewarding experience for the volunteer and the local community. By working together, all those involved will gain a better understanding of a new culture and form new cross-cultural relationships, which can be carried with you beyond your time abroad. Volunteer work in Africa is a great place to begin your volunteer experiences or continue adding to the volunteer work you have already completed.
