If I go, I will be 16 when I study in Brazil. My school doesn’t allow people to study abroad during the school year, but I would like to have the experience of staying in Brazil with a host family. Therefore, I would most likely go in the summertime. However, their summer vacation in in our winter, and they are in school for our summer? How would this arrangement work out? Would I just go to school with the children of the host family in the summer as well? Any programs you know of that do this would be great. Thanks!

I have been thinking about doing some volunteer work abroad at an animal sanctuary, there are quite a few options available in many different countries, some of them fairly costly. One is even in India. Is it safe for a female to go to these places alone? Do you think these places just take advantage of people or is it a very worthwhile and legitimate thing to do? And how do I choose which one there are so many (from a book called Green Volunteers). Is there anyone out there with any experience with these things?

If you have any doubts then don’t go. Why don’t you travel to somewhere nearby? I think you should do that, because the cost of getting to the destination is going to cost a lot, and if you are going to another country you’ll have to settle in pretty quicky if you want communicate with people and stuff.
